Impact Telford services moving to Telford Mind

Impact Telford will be closing at the end of 2020, with its services being transferred to Telford Mind.

Impact has had a long history in Telford, starting over 20 years ago originally focussed on addiction but over the years evolving to a more general counselling approach. Both Impact and Telford Mind are delighted to join forces, and are looking forward to integrating the counselling service to Telford Mind’s existing provision.

For clients little will change as the counselling team remains the same (and in fact we’ve now expanded with another children’s and young person’s counsellor joining us.)

We can be contacted on info@impacttelford.co.uk or on Impact’s mobile: 07419 730 445. We’re still available for training and consultancy, these services will be incorporated with Telford Mind’s existing service, do get in touch with us to find out more.

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported Impact over the last 20 years, clients, volunteers, fundraisers, trustees and associated people, we’re looking forward to the future with Telford Mind.

Free Emotional Support Sessions

With thanks to funding from Telford and Wrekin Council we are now available to offer free Emotional Support Sessions to local residents.  This funding will enable Impact to support those whose mental health has been affected by the current Covid-19 crisis.

The sessions are aimed at people living within the Telford and Wrekin council area who are:

  • struggling with loss of a loved one during the Covid-19 crisis
  • suffering anxiety around health, job security, finances
  • whose mental health has been impacted by isolation and loneliness
  • Telford and Wrekin Council Staff

Impact will be offering up to three sessions per person spread over a six-week period for those aged 14 and above.  The sessions will be delivered on the telephone or online and will give people a safe, non-judgemental space to discuss how recent events have affected them. Sessions will be confidential and will allow people the ability to talk about their emotions which they may not feel able to discuss with family or work colleagues.

If you would like to book a session then please give us a call on 01952 223 165 or email us on info@impacttelford.co.uk.

Impact Telford has moved!

From 1st April we are now four doors up the road on Madeley High street. We’re now based in the CHEC centre, we can’t wait to show you our new rooms once lockdown is over! For now our office is closed but our counselling team is still working with clients either online or on the telephone. Our phone line is still running, just give us a call and if we don’t answer please leave a message, we’ll be in touch as soon as we are able.

Problem Gambling: Gamcare

From April 2020 Impact Telford are sadly no longer in partnership with GamCare.

Anyone looking for help with problem gambling should call the freephone National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or alternatively look at treatment options at www.gamcare.org.uk

Locally the GamCare partner agency Aquarius will be picking up treatment for gambling clients in Telford and Shropshire. They can be contacted on 0300 456 4293 or via their website www.aquarius.org.uk

Covid-19: Our work during the Coronavirus Crisis

With face to face work currently not an option our team have moved to work either online or on the telephone and are continuing to provide counselling sessions for those that need. We appreciate that it is a very difficult time and are doing our best to make sure that we can support as many clients as possible. Unfortunately we have temporarily had to stop working with young children for now, this is because a lot of the therapeutic work with children is done through play and creative art which isn’t practical on the phone or online. It’s not a step we’ve taken lightly and we will resume face to face work again as soon as we are able to do so. In the midst of early lockdown chaos at the end of March we moved offices and can’t wait to welcome you there!

In the meantime we are still taking on referrals for adults and young people who are happy to work on the phone or online, just give us a call on 01952 223 165 or email us at info@impacttelford.co.uk. You may need to leave a message as our team may be with clients but we’ll call you back as soon as we can to arrange an appointment with one of our counsellors.

What to expect from Couples Counselling and Relationship Therapy

As well as counselling individuals – both adults and children – some of our counsellors offer relationship therapy working with couples. If your relationship is going through a tricky patch, or there are things that you’d like to raise with your partner but don’t quite know how, then couples counselling can be a way to explore things together.

We asked one of our couples therapists what they would say are the things that people could expect from relationship therapy, here’s what they had to say…

“It’s about helping you gain insight into your relationship, and supporting you to identify and work through your relationship differences. We’ll look at the issues together and discover how and why they have become an issue for each of you. It’s about helping both parties gain insight into what’s really going on and understand the part that they’re each playing. We work to understand why you argue and perhaps why roles in the relationship may have become dysfunctional. There’s also an important element of looking at communication styles – how you both recover from an argument and looking at listening to hear instead of listening to respond.”

If you think that couples counselling could help you to work through your relationship issues then just give us a call. We see clients from our centre in Madeley, Telford and both day and evening appointments are available.

Small Charity Week – Can you help us?

It’s small charity week this week, raising the profile of small charities. We’ve been going as a registered charity since 2003 and the support of the local community has been invaluable in helping us make counselling affordable to those that need it here in Telford.

Later this week we’ve got a team coming in from a local business to help us redecorate some of our rooms, and last year the local branch of the Co Op raised over £6,000 for us.

We’re always on the look out on ways to raise funds and help us on our mission to improve mental health, so if you’ve any ideas then we’d love to hear them. We also would love some more trustees on board to help us with the strategic vision for the organisation, there’s more info on our trustees page here if you think you’d be great for our team!

Counselling Children and Young People

Does your child seem upset, sad, angry or anxious but you can’t understand why? Has your child’s behaviour changed? Are you feeling concerned or worried? Children and young people generally express their feelings through actions, but this can become scary and out of control if left unexplored.

In counselling we can explore your child’s thoughts and feelings in a neutral environment so that they might work through their difficulties.

Our specialist children’s counsellors can help your child explore what’s going on for them through play or talking in a way that helps them process whatever they might be struggling with.  As well as working from our friendly rooms in Telford, some of our counsellors are based within local schools and we’re happy to liaise with you to work out the best way for your child to access our services.

Give us a call, we’d be happy to have a chat and see how we can help: 01952 223165
